The land on which the green barn perches climbs up in successive tiers to the ridge-line, unfolding a panorama of the Columbia River Gorge that spans to the Portland hills. During the years that the property sat waiting and empty, its graceful contours and secret spaces were swallowed by blackberries and other invasive weeds which overtook the open spaces left by illegal logging. Nell and Greg saw the wonderful potential, slowly but surely they formed the dream and intent of sharing their treasure and the vision of Kahnaway emerged. With the careful and organic restoration of the property and the finishing of the century old barn into studios using reclaimed wood from an old pear barn, they set about creating a space that would inspire others to create.
